"Who Are These Germans?"

Sunday, August 29, 10:00 a.m.

Our special guests at morning worship, two Germans offer insight on the Holocaust and reflect on how a new generation of Germans are reconciling this difficult period of history.  Drawing from his own German childhood and army experiences, Fritz Ottenheimer recounts personal anecdotes about various Germans he has met: some angels and others monsters.

Susanne Ortner, an internationally-known German musician, accents the talk with brief Klezmer pieces on her clarinet and offers her observations about young Germans of today.

Their presentation provides a glimpse into the Holocaust and tackles the idea of what it means to be German in the 21st century.
