WHO WE ARE

Committees

Christian Education
The Christian Education Committee is responsible for all education programs in the church. The committee plans programs; recruits teachers; assists in choosing/purchasing/designing appropriate curricula; and supervises the program that offers child care during Sunday worship. The committee also plans such special events as September's Rally Day; Advent Tree Trimming; the Christmas pageant; and the recognition of Sunday School teachers in June.

Church and Community
The Church and Community Committee is responsible for the allocation of budgetary funds to many local and international organizations. In addition, it sponsors Sixth Church volunteer efforts to selected organizations throughout the year. The committee tries to meet every six weeks. Participation is open to all members and friends of Sixth Church.

Communications
This committee attempts to simplify communications within Sixth Church and to increase the broader community's awareness of the work and offerings of the church. Ideas are always welcome.

Evangelism
The Evangelism Committee is all about making people feel welcome at Sixth Presbyterian. To do this, we've organized ourselves around four primary activities: 1) Make the church known in the area, 2) Welcome visitors to the church, 3) Conduct Inquirer Classes, 4) Help new members get integrated into the church. We meet on an as-needed basis. Participation is open to all members and friends of Sixth Church.

Fellowship
The Fellowship Committee enhances the community life of Sixth Church by coordinating several annual events and social gatherings that involve FOOD. As we are a very hands-on group of worker bees, we keep meetings to a minimum. Business and planning are often conducted via email. Visionary thinking is limited to menu planning. We are ALWAYS looking for new ideas and energy. Join us!

Finance
The Finance Committee is responsible for preparing an annual budget for the approval of Session and presenting that budget to the congregation in January.

House
The House Committee is charged with keeping our building and grounds, the "House of God," in good repair. We deal with leaky roofs, flower planting, new carpet and all the challenges of a 100 year old physical plant. We are always looking for the names of good contractors and new committee members!

More Light
The More Light Committee is responsible for directing the educational and outreach efforts focused on the acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals (LGBT) in accordance with Sixth Church's mission of inclusion. This committee is also involved in activities outside of Sixth Church that foster acceptance of LGBT individuals in the broader spiritual community. The committee meets monthly and participation is open to all members and friends of Sixth Church.

Personnel
The Personnel Committee sets job descriptions, evaluates the performance of church employees, and recommends annual salary adjustments to Session. The committee also interviews employees as needed.

Stewardship
The Stewardship Committee raises funds from the members of Sixth to sustain and grow the congregation. Sixth derives about 85% of its revenue from the pledges of members. During the past two years, the Stewardship Committee has sought to connect its annual fundraising to the whole church by: 1) using the goals of the church committees as the basis for the annual campaign; 2) using the Stewardship Kickoff Lunch to inform members about the many facets of church life; and 3) engaging members by making the Kickoff Lunch an enjoyable event for everyone.

Worship
The Worship Committee works closely with our Pastor and Music Director to propose the order of worship services, prepare communion elements, schedule lay liturgists, serve as a conduit of concerns, suggestions and questions brought by members of the congregation and to support the work of all church committees. We meet about every six weeks to two months. Participation is open to everyone!
