WORSHIP Music and Choir "My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary." Martin Luther During worship, we gather together to respond to God and communicate our experiences of God to each other. Our hearts are often full of life's joys and sorrows. How do we connect to a God who is "beyond all understanding, who transcends creation"? We sing, we pray, we listen and are renewed. The choir at Sixth Presbyterian Church sings an Introit and an anthem each Sunday. These pieces are selected to correspond with the lessons of the Lectionary, the collection of scriptural texts produced for common use by North American Christian Churches. The choral music which the choir sings reflects its high standards of ability and commitment. The repertoire includes music from the great traditions of Christian music, past to present. The choir rehearses every Thursday evening from September through May and sings most Sundays during this time. It also rehearses on Sunday morning before Sunday School. Liturgical drama, dance and children's singing are also integral parts of the worship year at Sixth. |
