We are located in the heart of the Pittsburgh city neighborhood of Squirrel Hill at the intersection of Murray Avenue and Forbes Avenue. Our accessibility ramp is at the Murray Avenue entrance.

Parking is available on Sunday morning across Murray Avenue in the city lot beneath the Carnegie Library.

Several buses stop right at our door:  61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 64, and 74.

Our Staff

Rev. Dr. Charissa Howe

Rev. Dr. Charissa Howe joined Sixth Presbyterian Church as Pastor in May 2025. She holds a Master of Divinity, a Master of Sacred Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Prior to her call to Sixth, she served as the director of chaplaincy at the Allegheny County Jail and served several other Presbyterian congregations in the Pittsburgh area.

A resident of Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, Rev. Dr. Howe enjoys exploring the city’s parks with her human family and her three dogs, reading widely across genres, and participating in local community events. She brings to Sixth her commitment to social justice, inclusive ministry, and helping the church engage meaningfully with its urban context.

Pastor

Jenny Newman is a graduate of West Liberty University and is a Certified Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She has earned a certificate in Youth and Theology from the Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary and is certified as a coach by the National Association of Youth Ministry. She joined the Sixth Presbyterian Church staff in 2014 and has worked in children’s and youth ministry for over 20 years, previously serving as the director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Washington, PA. Active in serving her community, Jenny is the co-founder of the non-profit organization the Washington County Gay/Straight Alliance and has served on the Avella Area School District Board of Directors. Jenny lives in the woods of Hopewell Township, Washington County, with her husband, Brant, and their dogs and cats, and various woodland creatures.

Shay Carter McGraw

Shay Carter McGraw has past experience serving multiple churches, where she has both performed as an instrumental musician, led choral programming, and provided musical programs for youth.  She also currently serves as a music teacher leading individual lessons, teaching piano to aspiring young musicians.  Shay received her B.A. in Music Performance from West Virginia Wesleyan University.  She resides in beautiful Greenfield, where she enjoys spending time with her husband, Christopher, who is an upright bassist on the Pittsburgh jazz scene.  In her free time, she likes to read, crochet, and go on adventures with their mini poodle, Paul.

Kelly Johnson

Kelly Johnson started with Sixth Church in March of 2024. Her administrative background includes working as Activities Coordinator for ProMedica and a HR/Operations Coordinator at East End Cooperative Ministry. Kelly resides in Stanton Heights with her husband, Rev. Dr. Gavin Walton. Together they have a dog, Khalessi. In her spare time, Kelly often enjoys reading, indoor rock climbing and playing tennis.
